According to Barry Rozner who believes that the new Cubs owner would increase the Cubs payroll to make room for Jim Hendry to acquire the 2007 Cy Young winner in Jake Peavy.
Here's what Rozner said "Ricketts will want to win and win fast, so if it's him and it happens soon his first call might be to GM Jim Hendry with the news that he can up the payroll and get Peavy out of San Diego."
Ricketts who is a CEO of Chicago investment bank Incapital, is a local guy who loves the team and will have only its best interests at heart. He even "reportedly" met his wife in the bleachers at Wrigley. I think this guy is all about the Cubs, and that's what we need.
As we all wait impatiently for Sam Zell to pick a new Owner, Peavy is waiting anxiously to get the call that he's heading to Chicago (he likely waives FNTC, as reported that he will.)
I'd rather see them use the chips to go after Brian Roberts instead of Peavy. We have solid pitching and you really only use 3 starters in the playoffs, however Roberts would bring an increase in offense and be a solid lead-off hitter.
ReplyDeleteI'd go after Peavy, for this reason because they get him for 4 years and a option year. But Roberts is a 1 year guy. But i wouldnt be mad if we got Roberts.
ReplyDeleteThat's fair...if we don't sign Peavy, what do you make of the DeRosa trade? I know he only had one year left, and it was one of the only contracts that could be moved, but it seems like a big waste if we don't get Peavy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when you post anonymously it initally gives you an error and then it goes through the second time, its done it to me twice now.
ReplyDeleteI think the Derosa trade was used to get money for Milton Bradley, until the new owner raised are budget. We should sign a pitcher if we don't sign Milton Bradley, i was all for the Derosa trade.
ReplyDeleteGet Peavy, BECAUSE i dont think Roberts will stay in Balt, so wait till next year when he is a FA and go after him. I agree with Phil, we wil have Peavy for more years. Singing Roberts next off-season will keep our farm system AFTER the Peavy trade.
